Still Life Goes On

--

a remarkable air of being well kept
even in spite of apparent neglect
not so much abandoned
as unoccupied
left in the care of clover
spreading from its initial home
between the cracks it now transcends
the reflection in the puddle from the recent rain
the pink clouds above the Blue Ridge
and of course that passing train
bringing motion to a still life
but what here is truly still?
for the clover is growing
at the inexorable pace
of life pressing on
and on and on
and on
