I appreciate your concern over the metaphor of "capture," and love the metaphor of sympathetic resonance as its replacement (as a piano player in particular this rings true for me). I avoid using "capture" as a metaphor for photography, though it may be an improvement on "shoot." I don't have a metaphor to replace it with yet, but I have traded "going on a photo shoot" for "foraging for photographs."

I'm always grateful when I encounter someone examining their own metaphors and engaging in the creative practice of replacing those which are problematic.
