Glow on Grey

--

© Matthew Word Bain

warm wavelengths
of lingering light

shadows stretching
on a softened industrial
monochromatic scene

in its turn lying low
beneath the life-giving
green of shade-giving trees
and the line of the Blue Ridge
where it kisses the clouds

their lofty grey speaking
at once of sweltering days
and the potential for coolness
falling from down from on high

the nights have grown longer
in the short interval
between
the making
and the sharing
of this image
and all it conveys

the heat of summer
begins to rise
just as the daylight
decreases

the seed
of one extreme
contained in the fullness
of the other: enantiodromia
